If you have a Lego train or town scene set up somewhere I bet you are tired of the way that Lego releases so many of the same type buildings for it’s City theme. I mean how many different fire stations and police stations does your Lego city need?
There is some hope for you. Over the last few years there’s a growing trend of Lego releasing Creator sets for making some cool looking houses. Still available is last year’s Beach House #4996 which is a yellow and black house that includes lots of windows and cute little detail elements. Lego added some new house themed Creator sets this year too. The white and blue Apple Tree House # 5891 features a garage door, lawn mower and a basketball hoop. The attractive Family Home #6754 consists of tan colored bricks that give it an added realism. Of course the sets are versatile and can be converted to make duplexes, apartments or even cafes. They are mid priced and offer an average piece price of about 6-9¢. So picking up a few sets would be a good way to add some choice real estate to your Lego town.
Of course if you’re feeling really saucy, splurge on the amazing Green Grocer #10185 because your minifigs need to buy their groceries someplace. The modular design reveals several removable levels that features furnished apartments. You can even make an exception by adding another fire station as long as it’s the beautiful Fire Brigade #10197. This set includes a bell tower and a cool looking 1930’s fire truck. Nice touch guys! These sets aren’t cheap, usually over $150 each, but each set has over 2200 pieces and come with several minifigs.
These are part of a recent series of building sets inspired from Lego Factory creation Market Street #10190. Shortly after that they released the Cafe Corner #10182 Exclusive set. The development of these sets was due in part by collaboration of the Lego Ambassador’s Program and were intended to meet the needs of older builders. These sets are great just following the instructions but they also offer a large amount of elements and tons of versatility if you want to make original MOCs out of them. (It looks like currently the Market Street and Cafe Corner sets are sold out. I don’t know if the company will re-release them again, but you can always find the sets on Bricklink.)
Finally, this year Lego has released an accessory pack of Doors & Windows #6117. Pick up this set for some essential elements for your Lego buildings. This set includes some classic looking windows that have movable outside shutters and inner panes.
So don’t just let your Lego minifigs live at the fire station! Build them a nice neighborhood in the suburbs with white picket fences and a garden of their own!
