In the last post I introduced you to the larger sets in the new Lego Kingdoms theme. In this follow up post I have some of the smaller sized sets and accessories to show you.

Lego Kingdoms 7952 Advent Calendar

Lego Kingdoms 7952 Advent Calendar

First up, check out the Lego 7952 Kingdoms Advent Calendar. As I recall last holiday season Lego had a Castle themed advent calendar but it wasn’t released in the States only Europe. People were not to happy about that. So starting this August 2010 the Lego Kingdoms advent calendar will become available. As far as I can tell it will be available in the US and Canada this time too.

It comes with 30 advent gifts Including a total of 9 Kingdoms minifigures. It also comes with Babe the pig, some extra armor and a Hedwig looking owl.

lego-kingdoms-7953-court-jester
Set Lego 7953 Court Jester is the Lego Kingdoms take on the court jester. This one has different coloring from the one seen in the Castle theme from last year. I tend to like that one a bit better. Just like the old jester this one has the reversible head that has a happy or a sad face, but this one is nice too. It’s one of the small “impulse buy” sets for the Kingdoms line and comes with three “juggling balls” and a carnival stand. It should be out this summer.

Also if you really want to take the jester’s mirth where ever you go, then pick up Lego 852911 Court Jester Key Chain minifig.

Lego Kingdoms 7955 Green Wizard

Another impulse set is the Lego 7955 Green Wizard. As I mentioned in the last post the Kingdoms theme is supposed to be more realistic but Lego decided to keep in certain mythological things like wizards and unicorns. The wizard is on the side of the mean Green Dragon Knights so I guess he leans toward the dark arts. He comes with a magic wand, a Little Norbort-like dragon pet. On his table he has a spell scroll and two potions (I’m not telling you which one turns you into a frog).

Next up is the Lego 30061 Attack Wagon set. Basically just a minifig set with a small siege cart and one Green Soldier.

Lego Kingdoms 30062 Target Practice

Lego Kingdoms 30062 Target Practice

Similar to that is Lego 30062 Target Practice which comes with a Red Lion archer, two apples and a chicken leg you know in case he wants a snack.

For you army building, minifig luvin’, castle knight collectin’ people out there Lego is releasing some sweet Lego Kingdoms battle packs in cool looking shield-shaped packaging!

lego-kingdoms-852921-red-lion-knights-battle-pack-minifigs
852921 Red Lion Knights Battle Pack contains 5 soldiers for the “good” Red Lion kingdom. The minifigs come armed to the teeth with swords, bows and armor.

lego-kingdoms-852922-green-dragon-knights-battle-pack-minifigs852922 Green Dragon Knights Battle Pack is a Kingdoms battle pack for the “bad” guys on the medieval block. It also has five figures. These battle packs are selling for $14.99 which means that’s about $3 per minifigure. That’s is leaning toward the pricey end of the spectrum for new minifigs but it’s still a cheap way to build up a kickass army of Lego knights and soldiers!

lego-kingdoms-logoThe new Lego Kingdoms theme will make fans of Lego classic Castle theme take a moment to rejoice because it is right up your medieval alley. Steering away from the fantasy elements of the recent (and still running) Lego Castle theme is the new Lego Kingdoms that bring a new sense of realism to the sets. In other words no ogres, walking skeletons, dwarves or trolls. For that you’ll have to read my Lego comics “Tales of Blockview Castle:-)

Lego Kingdoms is based on Medieval Europe and pits two feudal clans (the Green and Red kingdoms) against each other. I guess color coding the two opposing armies is a good idea to let them know who is who on the battlefield. Similar to the old Knights Kingdom theme from 2000, one side is more vehicle heavy (The Green Dragon Knights have siege engines, horse carriages, etc.) and the other is more building focused (the Red King’s Knights have more towers and castles.)

Let’s start with the big whopper, triple cheese burger set first this time. Here it is, King’s Castle. This set includes a wind-up front gate, tipping drawbridge and secret prison.

The castle is armed with 3 catapults. It’s inhabited by 8 minifigures including King and 4 soldiers as well as 1 Dragon Knight and 2 Dragon Knight enemy soldiers. You get one horse wearing battle armor.

As you can see in these two pics below…

King’s Castle is very similar to the classic castle set from 1984 Lego 6080. The only big differences are that the new King’s Castle set from Kingdoms has a red tower and fewer horses and minifigs. That seems to be a trend of Lego rationing the minifigs in sets probably to keep the price low.

I hear that this set may only be available from Lego stores and not online. If so then it may quickly start bringing a premium on the second hand market. (The 1984 Lego 6080 mentioned above can still be found on bricklink. A loose set in fairly good condition is about $100 but a MISB (mint sealed in box) set is listed for up to $1600!)

Some other cool features in this set are the boiling cauldron and working portcullis gate. Now we’re talking realism.

The 5 minifigs include the princess, 2 Dragon Knight soldiers, 1 good knight on white horse (typical), and 1 good soldier for backup.

This is a fun set for under 20 bucks. You get a two story tower guarded by two Kings soldier minifigs. It’s under attack though by a Dragon soldier minifig and his rolling catapult. If he gets in a lucky shot the tower’s walls have a crumble feature to show the damage.

Another rescue? Wow those Green Knights are all about kidnapping. This time its up to a Red King’s Knight to rescue his best buddy the King’s Soldier from the Green Soldier’s prison carriage. If it ain’t one thing it’s another.

This is a simple set but I like the look of it. The 1×1 colored slopes on the carriage give it a finished feel. And who hasn’t dreamed of one day owning a black Lego unicorn before?

This small sized set features two minifig Knights in a fierce battle to the bitter end. They need wit and might to come out on top. Looks like one will be sure to cheat though by using the catapult. Game over man, game over.

Some of these sets will be hard to find because they may only be available at Lego stores. Others I’m sure are going to hit stores this month! I recommend them all cuz I heart Lego castles, yo!

In this first post about Lego Kingdoms I showed you the main sets but for my next post I’ll show you some of the special minifig sets and other neat accessories. So stay tuned! ;-)

Now the citizens of your Lego City don’t have to go naked no mo’e! Because they can now go shopping for clothes and more at the new Grand Emporium! Lego 10211 the Grand Emporium is the latest addition to the modular buildings series (see my other post about the earlier sets in this modular building theme).

Grand Emporium

Grand Emporium

Personally I think this Grand Emporium is the nicest one yet in the series. First, here are the specs: 2182 pieces, 7 minifigs, Measures 15″ (38 cm) high and 10″ (25 cm) wide! It includes: three modular tiers, escalators, revolving door, changing room,

modular design lets you see each floor

windows with mannequins,

"See son, married people are faceless and have no souls"

clothing shop, toy shop, housewares shop,

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"

"These gold plates are to die for!"

"These gold plates are to die for!"

sky light, atrium with chandelier, window cleaner scaffold,

"I love my job"

"I love my job"

roof billboard and an ice cream cart.

"What!? No rocky road?"

"What!? No rocky road?"

Plus, there are tons of other little details and accessories that add a lot of charm and value to this set.

8grand-emporium-lego-10211

Sparkly!

It is built in the same minifig scale that the other modular building sets are. So it adds easily to your existing town. The $149.99 price point makes it a big ticket item, but still within the range of the other sets of this kind.

And now to be fair I have to list some of my complaints about this set, though few they are. First off I am surprised they didn’t add some cool light up brick feature. Especially for the open atrium with chandelier or for the billboard. And speaking of the billboard, what is with that face? It just has a big rectangular mouth. Why no smile? I mean if they had used plates stacked studs up they could have given it more detail and managed a cute smile. Instead it’s kind of a creepy gaping expression.

Okay so enough forced complaining, this set really is amazing. And if you like to make Space, Castle or City theme MOCs then this is a great way to build up you collection of bricks. I definitely recommend you pick this one up!

What building type do you think they should make next? Let me know your suggestions in the comment section.
